Transfer of project settings

Silverstack allows you to transfer project settings between projects or workstations. This can help to move custom settings from established projects to new ones without the need to set up everything from scratch. Other use cases involve transferring transcoding presets to new projects, or other machines.

1. Which settings can I transfer?#

Transferring settings involves certain project based as well as global settings. Please find them listed below.

Project settings:

Folder structure
Smart folders
Transcoding presets
Workflow presets
Report presets
Label names
Titles for custom fields

Global settings:

Table view presets
Format options
Tags

2. Transferring project settings#

You can choose the content to be imported or exported. Navigate to the menu items listed below in order to start the process.

File > Project Settings > Export…
File > Project Settings > Import…

Click Export to save the .psconfig (project settings configurations) file containing the project settings to the selected destination. The export and import window options are identical. Hence, you can choose which content to include in the .psconfig file and which content to import from a .psconfig file.

Here are the details about the different options:

2.1 Project settings#

Folder Structure
Transfers the folder structure of your Silverstack library to a new project. All top level folders can be selected for the export.

Smart Folders
Transfers your custom smart folders to a new project.

Transcoding Presets
Transfers your custom transcoding presets to a new project.

Workflow Presets
Transfers your custom workflow presets to a new project.

Report Presets
Transfers your custom report presets to a new project.

Label Names
Transfers the custom names for the color labels.

Titles for Custom Fields
Transfers your custom field titles.

2.2 Global settings#

Table View Presets
Transfers your table view presets (of the main table of clips and metadata) to a new project.

Format Options
Transfers the settings from the Format tab of Silverstack’s settings.

3. Setting a default template for new projects#

Besides the export and import of project settings, you can define a .psconfig file that may be used as a template for creating new projects. First, export a project settings file (as described above) and include all the necessary settings for the new project’s default template. Then, go to Silverstack’s settings and within the general tab, click Choose… to select the default .psconfig file for new projects.

Transfer Of Project Settings

If you create a new project, all contents of the selected .psconfig file will be loaded as default for the new project. You can do this either on a per-project basis or you copy a .psconfig file named “defaults.psconfig” into the library folder to be taken as the default template. Depending on your Silverstack version, the library paths are:

Silverstack [Version]: ~/Library/Application Support/Pomfort/Silverstack[Version] ¹
Silverstack Lab [Version]: ~/Library/Application Support/Pomfort/SilverstackLab[Version] ¹

¹ Replace [Version] with your current major version of Silverstack.

Note: Be aware that the .psconfig file in this location will overrule the UI settings.

The .psconfig files are generally compatible throughout all versions of Silverstack. Please be aware that restrictions might apply due to incompatible features (e.g., transcoding presets with DNx codecs that are only available in Silverstack Lab).
