Visual controls

The visual controls are part of the playback view and offer functionalities to check the colors and quality of a video clip. When being in the playback mode, the interface can be opened via Playback > Visual Controls.

1. Visual control features#

1 Channels
Allows you to view only one of the clip’s RGB-channels.

2 Focus Assist checkbox
Enables the focus assist which helps you to detect if your image is in focus by detecting edges in the image. The sensitivity is adjustable.

3 Clipping checkbox / slider
Enables the clipping view for blacks and whites. The percentage values define the threshold for clipping the blacks and whites.For example, 0% means clipping is only shown when the actual RGB pixel values in the image are cut off (0/100).

4 Exposure Range
Allows you to detect different luminance ranges in your image.

5 Exposure Assist / Output Analysis
Enables the exposure assist or output analysis view. Exposure assist is applied to the original image (e.g., log) while output analysis is applied to the playback view and it’s current settings.It’s recommended to use the exposure assist view for analyzing the image.

6 Framelines
Add frame lines to visualize the clips with a different aspect ratio. More information can be found in the article Frame Lines in the Playback View.

1 Playback control
Allows you to adjust the video preview and set in- and out-points

2 Zoom / Loop
Allows you to zoom in or out and set a loop for playback.

3 Look mode
Switches between the original (e.g., log) and graded (e.g., Rec. 709) preview.

4 Playback resolution
Allows you to adjust the resolution used for playback. Lower resolutions than full are only available for specific formats like RED or ARRI where you can choose between resolutions of full, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8.
