MovieSlate metadata import

When importing metadata via a MovieSlate XML file, you can use different methods to match it to the clips in Silverstack:

1. Timecode
2. File name
3. Creation date

1. Timecode mode#

This mode will compare the timecode of your footage and look for the corresponding values in the imported MovieSlate file. If the timecode of MovieSlate is synced with the camera, each asset automatically matches with a clip from the MovieSlate XML. Matching by timecode also offers the possibility of automatically setting the in-point to the slate frame.

Syncing the timecode of the MovieSlate application with the camera is required to use this mode. The timecode sync doesn’t have to be frame exact, but too much deviation may lead to mismatched clips.

Steps to match a Movieslate XML file via timecode#

1. In Silverstack, go to the Import menu and select the MovieSlate XML option.
2. Enable the “Timecode” checkbox to match the metadata via timecode.
3. Silverstack then shows the matched MovieSlate clips next to the clip names. It’s possible to choose which clips you would like to match.
4. Press Continue
5. Choose the metadata that you would like to sync with the the clips.
6. Select if you would like to overwrite the existing clip metadata or instead just fill metadata fields that are empty.

2. File name mode#

The file name matching mode works literally and compares the exact file names of the clips in the Silverstack project with the clips from the imported MovieSlate XML file.

Please keep in mind that even the smallest disparity in file names will prevent Silverstack from matching the clips with the MovieSlate metadata.

Make sure the settings of MovieSlate Field Input Styles match those of your camera.

Steps to match a Movieslate XML file via file name#

1. In Silverstack, go to the import menu and select the MovieSlate XML option.
2. Enable the “File Name” checkbox.
3. Silverstack then shows the matched MovieSlate clips next to the clip names. It’s possible to choose which clips you would like to match.
4. Press Continue
5. Choose the metadata you would like to sync with the clips.
6. Select if you would like to overwrite the existing clip metadata or instead just fill metadata fields that are empty.

3. Creation date#

This mode matches the creation date of your clips in Silverstack to the creation date of the MovieSlate clip metadata. This mode is working with approximation.

Please select if you’d like to match clips based on just the date or the date&time metadata.

There’s a ‘tolerance’ slider for the date&time option, which can help you adjust the time difference between the camera and MovieSlate clock. The adjustment range goes from 1 second to 2 minutes. This method is the least precise one and a high tolerance range can lead to mismatches.

Steps to match a MovieSlate XML file via creation date#

1. In Silverstack, go to the Import menu and select the MovieSlate XML option.
2. Enable the “Creation Date” checkbox.
3. Silverstack then shows the matched MovieSlate clips next to the clip names. It’s possible to choose which clips you would like to match.
4. If not all expected clips offer a match, you then need adjust the tolerance slider
5. Press Continue
6. Choose the metadata that you would like to sync with the the clips.
7. Select if you would like to overwrite the existing clip metadata or instead just fill metadata fields that are empty.
