Utilizing dynamic metadata
This article requires some knowledge about the dynamic metadata panel, the workflow configuration window and configuring a workflow. It explains how to:
1. Extracting dynamic metadata#
Dynamic Metadata needs to be extracted with the associated “Dynamic Metadata Extraction” activity in the workflow configurator. You can either extract the information with a workflow that contains only one activity or as part of a sophisticated workflow with several concatenated activities as explained in configuring a workflow. Assuming you already have some clips in the library for which you want to extract the metadata, click on the toolbar button Media , then on Extract Dynamic Metadata . This opens the workflow configuration window with the dynamic metadata extraction activity. Click on Extract Dynamic Metadata in the bottom right corner to start the process.
2. Using dynamic metadata for reports#
Silverstack extracts the dynamic metadata of a clip’s first frame already on ingest, so you can benefit from the extended information without extra effort. It is possible to include the additional lens fields in clips reports. In the settings’ media tab, there is a checkbox to make sure that the extracted dynamic metadata (which is shown in the general info and library’s table view) is linked to the thumbnail frame. By enabling this option, you can ensure that the referenced (static) metadata in the reports matches the shown thumbnails. The focus distance unit can also be changed within the media tab and determines which unit is used for display in the “Dynamic Metadata Panel” and the “General Info”. You can choose between “Imperial” (inches/feet) or “Metric” (millimeters/meters).
3. Exporting dynamic metadata to CSV files#
After successfully extracting the dynamic metadata from a clip, you can export the metadata on a frame-to-frame basis into one CSV file per clip. To trigger the export, select the entry “Dynamic Metadata (CSV)…” in the export menu of the toolbar. In the subsequent step, you only see the clips containing successfully extracted metadata. If a clip contains extracted dynamic metadata, is indicated by the horse icon in the “Dynamic Metadata” column of the library’s table view.
