1. How Silverstack works with color#

Each clip has a look source that defines it’s color processing (see the general info). You have several options to choose from which are explained in detail in our principles article on color processing. When grading, you will mainly work using the color view that contains all important features, including grading controls and modes that support ASC-CDL, 3D LUTs, or ACES pipelines. Footage shot in RAW can be processed with custom RAW development. Silverstack Lab also supports the use of hardware grading panels to work on looks.

2. Manage looks#

The current settings for a grading mode and it’s nodes form the technical configuration for what is referred to as a clip’s look in Silverstack. You have a lot of different options to work with looks. In general, looks can be saved, applied and managed via the look library within the right sidebar.

Moreover, Silverstack Lab offers a seamless import of looks from Livegrade using look matching, e.g. by timecode. This feature allows you to import looks created live and apply them to the actual camera clips again. Learn more about importing and exporting looks.

3. Assisting features for grading#

The grid and wipe view can be very helpful when comparing clips or matching their looks as well as the ability to output the video signal via HD-SDI to an external monitor. Silverstack also offers useful tools to analyze the luminance and colour of your clips which is essential in grading. One of these tools are Silverstack’s scopes which offer waveforms, histograms and vectorscopes to inspect the image. Moreover, the visual controls contain additonal features such as exposure and focus assist, clipping overlays, and frame lines.
