Getting started with Reeltime Viewer

Reeltime Viewer is a companion app to Pomfort’s professional on-set playback system, Reeltime Pro. It lets you watch low-latency video streams shared by the playback operator on iPads and iPhones connected to the same local network.

You can view multiple local streams at once — either a single stream in a single-view layout or up to four streams in various multi-view layouts. An “options panel” provides additional details, such as slate information and the timecode of the video signal, and also lets you save still images directly to your Photos library.

Installation#

You can download Reeltime Viewer for free on the App Store.

System Requirements: The app is compatible with iPads and iPhones running iPadOS / iOS 17 or newer.

Connecting to a Reeltime Pro server#

Reeltime Viewer receives its streams through the local network. Hence, you must connect to the same network as the machine at the video playback station running Reeltime Pro.

Please see the article Distributing Local Streams for Companion Apps for more information about configuring Reeltime Pro.

Once you’ve installed the app and connected to the local network, you can open the app. In the settings view, you will find a list of Reeltime Pro servers available in your network. Tap on the server you would like to connect to. Enter the server’s local streaming password that is provided to you by the video playback operator. If streams are available, they will be automatically configured as a source for the viewers. You can change your desired screen layout and source streams in the settings view’s layout section.

Note: A machine running the Reeltime Pro application acts as a local streaming server, while a mobile device running the Reeltime Viewer app acts as a client. If there is more than one machine running Reeltime Pro within the same network, you can also connect to multiple servers and receive and view streams from all connected servers simultaneously.

The settings view can be accessed at any time from the main view by tapping anywhere on the screen and then tapping the settings button located at the top left side of the screen.
