Slot system overview
Reeltime uses a slot-based concept to manage live video signals, recordings, playback, and outputs. Different slot types handle specific tasks within the system.
The flexible routing with slots allows operators to route live and playback signals as needed to different monitoring devices on set, even without relying on external video routers. This ensures that each role sees the most relevant content for the current situation. With individual filters per output slot, each view can be tailored precisely to the needs of the receiving role.

Slots view with configured slots
Input slots#
Input slots connect to live video sources, such as cameras. They are used for monitoring live signals, creating recordings, and playing back clips recorded from the same source.
Input slots serve as the primary workspace when working with live signals, recordings, and playback.
Output slots#
Output slots display the final signal that is sent to external devices or streams.
Each output slot can have its own source and individual video filters. This allows different views to be created for various on-set roles, such as independent SDI-monitoring for the director and the script supervisor, or local streams for other roles.
Quick routing actions make it easy to temporarily pin an output slot to the currently selected input, library, or composite slot, or to quickly force an output slot to follow the live signal of a specific input slot.
Library slots#
Library slots are linked to the clip library. They provide a workspace for browsing and preparing clips without affecting the signals shown the input slots and output slots.
Typical tasks include reviewing clips, comparing shots, or scrubbing through footage and preparing reviews before presenting them on an output slot.
Composite slots#
Composite slots combine multiple input slots or library slots into a single view.
Common use cases include side-by-side comparisons, grid layouts, or overlay views. Composite slots can also combine a keyed foreground (with transparency) with a background plate.
