First recording and playback

Recording and playback are core capabilities of Reeltime. Recordings are created from live input signals and become immediately available for playback in the same input slots.

This article explains how to create your first recordings and how to review them using the clip library.

Working with input slots#

Input slots are the primary workspace in Reeltime. They display live camera signals, recorded clips, and playback controls.

Each input slot supports three slot modes:

  • Live mode for monitoring and recording live signals
  • Playback mode for playing recorded clips
  • Reference mode for comparing live and playback signals

All input slots can be switched between live mode and playback mode using the corresponding buttons in the toolbar.

Creating recordings#

You can create recordings in several ways:

  • Record a single camera using the record button in an individual input slot
  • Create a timecode-synced group recording from all armed input slots using the record button in the viewer controls or the “Record All” button in the toolbar. Reeltime then records all armed input slots as a synchronized group recording.
  • With supported video I/O devices, recording can also be triggered automatically using the record flag embedded in SDI signals.

During recording, multiple in and out ranges can be created to mark segments within a take.

Playing back recordings#

After a recording stops, the new clips appear automatically in the clip library. By default, the recorded clips are also loaded into their source input slots for immediate playback. This behavior can be changed in the recording settings.

Additional playback options include:

  • Loading synchronized group recordings by double-clicking a clip group in the clip library
  • Loading a single clip into the currently selected input slot, for example via drag and drop
  • Play back marked ranges or loop selected ranges
