Shot library
The shot library stores all shots of the current project. Users can view, manage, and recall their shots in the shot library.
Shot library “List view”
Each “shot” (e.g. each entry in the shot library) consists of
- a media item, such as a still or clip
- the look metadata with all grade settings from the slot where the shot has been created from
- all associated production an camera-specific metadata received from the camera and from custom-filled metadata fields,
Media item#
Most commonly, each shot contains an associated media item which can be either a still or a clip.
The still or clip will be created from the image source of a slot and will be stored in the record folder which is configured in Livegrade’s “Recording” settings.
In setups where a slot does not have an image source, “Create Still Shot” actions will create a shot using a placeholder image.
The “Type” column shows, which media type is associated with the shot:
- Photo icon: a still is stored as reference media item
- Clip icon: a clip is stored as reference media item
- Strikethrough rectangle: no reference media item is stored
- Red icon: the associated reference media is currently offline
- Greyed out icon: the associated reference media item is stored with applied look – the look of the shot cannot be changed
Look metadata#
In order to access the look stored with a shot you can
- apply the look to a slot
- load the shot into a slot
The grading controls in the bottom of the main screen will then give you the possibility to adjust them. Read more about the look pipelineand re-grading shots.
Camera-specific metadadata#
The metadata stored with each shot allows to recap the details of any taken shot. More about that can be found in the Collecting global and slot metadata article.

The shot library table consists of the following elements:
Folder outline#
Shots are stored in bins, and bins can be grouped in folders. You can organize folders within folders to create a project hierarchy. Selection of bins and folders behaves recursively: Selecting a folder shows the shots of all the bins and folders in the selected folder.
Smart groups#
Smart groups display a hierarchical structured outline of the currently selected folder level of the shot library.
Smart groups are auto-generated based on shot metadata. You can define the hierarchy levels for the outline in a gear menu, that provides the metadata fields “Season”, “Episode”, “Flagged”, “Label”, “Crew Unit”, “Shooting Day”, “Scene”, “Shot”, “Take”, “Camera”, “Caption”, “Location” and “Rating” to choose from. You can also apply from predefined layouts or save custom layouts.
Tip: Smart groups are pre-filtered by the selected folder/bin in the shot library sidebar. When you want to view all available items in the library, make sure to select the “Library” home folder in the shot library sidebar.
Change view controls#
In the top left corner of the shot library you find elements to show/hide elements of the shot library and to change between list and collection view.

Show List View buttonLists all shots in a list view.

Shot Library#
The shot library lists all shots based on the selected folder, bin, and/or smart group.
Using the change view controls, you can show the shots as list or as collection view.
List view#
Within the list view, you can edit each field individually. If you need to edit multiple shots, you can use the “Library Info” tab.
The shown columns can be configured by pressing the Gear icon in the top right of the table. You can either choose one of the default layouts or configure a custom column layout. Custom layouts can also be exported via the export settings dialog.
Collection view#
The collection view shows previews of your shots and allows to quickly find a certain frame in a bunch of clips. Hovering recorded clips with your mouse cursor shows a red skim indicator to scrub through them.
Use the chosen frame of the clip to
- Load the Shot to its source slot through a double-click
- Add the Shot to a custom multi-view through a right-click and a click on “Add to Multi-View”
Shot Library Collection View
- Collection view: Change the view to show the shot library as a collection.
- Configuration: Change the size of the previews
Shot search#
The search field in the header of the shot library allows to search for shots within the currently selected folder, bin, and smart group.
Press on the magnifying glass symbol to search only within a specific field.
Library info#
The library info allows to inspect and edit metadata of a shot.
- Single and batch edit metadata: To edit the metadata of selected shots, just click into the field, change the value and confirm by hitting the return key. If multiple shots are currently selected, the value of all selected shots will be updated.
- Search bar: A search bar on the top lets you filter the displayed fields and metadata.
- Markers: There are two tabs: One for the shot’s metadata and one to inspect the shot’s markers. To edit markers, load the shot into a slot and edit the markers via the markers tab.
- Preview image: Shows a preview of the stored reference media with applied look.
