Slating settings

Slating system dropdown menu

Defines which slating structure is used and which metadata fields, menu items and controller actions are available when editing scene, shot, and take.

The selected slating system determines which fields and key actions are available:

  • StandardUses separate scene, shot, and take fields for continuous slating (e.g., Scene “56” / Shot “4” / Take “2”).Includes actions for all three fields, such as Increase Shot, Increase Scene, and combined actions like Increase Shot and Reset Take or Increase Scene and Reset Shot and Take.
  • AmericanUses a combined scene field (number + letter) and a take field for American slating (e.g., Scene “56C” / Take “2”). The shot field is not used.Focuses on scene and take actions, such as Increase Scene, Increase Scene and Reset Take, and Increase Scene Number and Reset Scene Letter and Take.
  • AllEnables all fields and actions for maximum flexibility. This is useful, for example, if you work with American slating but also want to use the shot field (e.g., Scene “56” / Shot “C” / Take “2”).Combines both approaches, including shot-based actions like Increase Shot and Reset Take together with scene letter–based actions like Increase Scene Number and Reset Scene Letter and Take.
Note: Changing the slating system can affect clip identifier naming, depending on the configured naming scheme (e.g., Scene–Take–Camera). When switching the slating system, Reeltime displays a confirmation dialog to optionally update the naming scheme accordingly.

Custom Reset Values multiple checkboxes and textfields

Defines custom reset values for scene, shot, and take. These values are applied when resetting slating metadata.

Tip: If you work with American slating but also want to use the shot field, set the shot field’s custom reset value to an empty field. This ensures that the master shot of a new scene is created without a scene letter.

Scene Letter checkbox and textfield

Controls whether a letter is automatically appended when increasing the scene value (e.g., “5” → “5A”). This option is enabled automatically when using the American slating system and disabled when using the Standard system.

Note: Letter increments follow an overflow system (e.g., “Z” → “AA”).

Skipped Characters textfield

Defines characters that are skipped when incrementing letters in scene, shot, or take fields. fields.
