Recording settings

To change settings that apply to your recordings, open Livegrade’s settings via the main menu (Livegrade > [Settings…]) and select the Recording tab.

There, you will find the following sections:

Media Folders for Project
Recording
Auto Record
Behaviour After Recording

Media Folders for Project#

You can add multiple “media folders” to flexibly add additional media storage space. The media folders are a project-dependent setting.

Recording#

Record Format dropdown menu
You can choose between various codecs of the ProRes family.

Timecode dropdown menu
Defines whether the timecode for the created shot should be taken from the image source or from the local time on your computer.

Current Time: The timecode used for your slots will be your local time from your computer’s setting.
Original Timecode: The timecode used for your slots will be the one received from the camera via SDI.

Tip: When creating group recordings, the timecode will be used to sync the clips. For this use case, make sure to jam-sync cameras properly in order to create timecode-synced groups using SMTPE timecode.Alternatively, you can sync multiple incoming signals in your group recording by using the current time as timecode.

Cancelled Recordings dropdown menu
Defines what happens to a recorded file after using an action to cancel the recording.

Create Subfolders for Stored Media Items checkbox
Enabling this option will store reference media items in subfolders based on the creation date.

Auto Record#

You can trigger start/stop recording based on the record flag embedded in SDI camera signals.

You can choose between different Trigger Record Behaviours and Trigger Stop Behaviours (e.g., if you can only receive a record for one camera in your setup, you can choose that this camera should trigger start/stop recording for all cameras).
If your production requirements allow the use of RecRun timecode, you can choose that option as an alternative way to use auto record (e.g., if you cannot receive a record flag via SDI). The RecRun auto record mechanism triggers start/stop recording based on if the timecode is running or not. Consequently, you need to ensure that all cameras are set to RecRun timecode.

Defines what action should be triggered when Livegrade receives a standby flag via SDI.

Behaviour After Recording#

Switch to live mode when recording is triggered checkbox
This option is enabled by default to switch slots which started to record to “Live”. Disable the option to avoid the automatic switch.

Automatically load new clips for playback checkbox
When active, clips will be automatically loaded for playback into their source slots.

Switch to playback checkbox
This option is only available if “Automatically load new clips for playback” is enabled.Enable this option to switch a slot to playback once a shot was loaded to the slot after the recording stopped.

Increase take number checkbox and dropdown menu
When active, Livegrade automatically increments the take field in the global metadata.You can chose one of the following options:

After All Armed Slots Stopped Recording: Take increment will happen, if all armed slots stopped recording, e.g., by using the “Stop Recording In All Armed Slots” button in the main toolbar.
After Still For All Armed Slot Was Created: Take increment will happen, if a still for all armed slots was taken, e.g., by using the “Create Still For All Armed Slots” button in the main toolbar.

Increase also after single recording checkbox
Per default, the “Increase take number” actions only respect stopped recordings which affect all armed slots (e.g., when using “Stop Recording In All Armed Slots”). If the take number should also be increased when stopping a single recording

Increase clip number checkbox and dropdown menu
When active, Livegrade automatically increments the clip field in the slot metadata, respecting the current clip number of the slot.

You can chose one of the following options:

After Single Recording Has Stopped: Clip increment will happen, if a slot stopped recording.
After Still For Individual Slot Was Created: Clip increment will happen, if a still for a slot was created.
After Recording Or Still Was Created: Clip increment will happen, if a slot stopped recording or a still from the slot was created.

Clip number will not be increased during rehearsal mode.
