Setting up a project

Setting up a project#

A project in Livegrade represents a production, be it a feature film, a season of a series, or a one-day commercial shoot.

In this article, we will guide you through the essential steps for setting up a project.

Create a new project using the “Project chooser”#

In the middle of Livegrade’s toolbar, you will find the project chooser. Clicking on it offers you the possibility to create a new project, switch between projects, and manage all projects on your computer.

To create a new project, press the New Project button on the top right of the project chooser.

A dialog will open where you can enter the name of the project and select the corresponding record folder. The record folder defines the place where all of your stills and recordings will be stored. This folder can be changed via the “Record” tab within Livegrade’s settings.

Project settings#

After you’ve created your project, let’s go through the most important project settings, which are stored with each project.

To do so, open Livegrade’s settings via the menu by clicking Livegrade > [Settings …]

Project settings can be found under the “Library” and “Record” tab. Sections that are stored individually for each project are indicated by the suffix … for Project “Your-Project-Name”.

Library tab#

  • Custom fields: Livegrade provides custom metadata fields that can be named as needed. The provided default names should give an idea that their use can be versatile, depending on the individual needs of the production.

  • Labels: Labels give the possibility to visually indicate shots within your library. Based on the individual needs of the production, the use of them can vary, and names can be adjusted accordingly.

  • Marker types: Similar to the custom fields and labels, how a production utilizes markers to highlight importantframes within a clip can vary. The default types should give a first guideline on how many productions are using different marker types – but they can be adjusted, if needed.

Recording tab#

Within the recording tab, the chosen record and media folder are also managed for each project individually.

Choose one folder where media items should be stored. When changing this folder during production, you can leave the folder as “Media Folder” within the project in order to access older media items.
