Using filters

In addition to the look, you can apply filters to an image to create tailored views according to individual needs and situations. For example, the Director of Photography may prefer a clean image with the camera’s metadata HUD cropped out, whereas monitoring metadata is essential for you as a DIT.

In this article, you will get an overview of available filters and how you can add them to a slot or an output.

Filter settings#

Every filter comes with dedicated settings, which can be accessed

via the slot settings, if the filter was added to a slot, or
via the output settings, if the filter was added to an output.

Filter settings allow for:

Inspect and edit filter settings in the settings tab of each slot.
Adjust the values in the filter setting text fields using the arrow up and down keys on your keyboard.
Resetting a filter’s parameter to its default value by double-clicking on the parameter’s label.

Additionally, “Copy/Paste Look and Filters” actions allow you to copy and paste slot filters and their settings between slots.

Adding a filter to a slot#

Filters that you configured for your slot will be saved with the shot in the library.

When using Export Shot(s) as… to export stills, you can choose if you want to apply the slot filters that were stored with the shot to the exported image.

To add a filter to a slot, please follow these steps:

Select the slot settings tab in the slot panel and scroll down.
Press + Add Filter and select the filter you want to add.
After you’ve added the filter, you can also re-order your filters.
If you load a shot into a slot and reconfigure its filters, press the Save button to update the shot in the library.

Example:

Add a flip filter for a shot that is recorded upside down.

Adding a filter to an output#

Filters that you configured for your output will be applied to all shown slots individually. They won’t be saved with the shots in the library.

To add a filter to an output, please follow these steps:

Select the output settings tab in the right sidebar.
Click + Add Filter and select the filter you want to add.
After you’ve added the filter, you can also re-order your filters.

Example:

Add a crop to hide the camera’s metadata infos.
Re-add specific metadata fields to the view by adding a metadata overlay filter
Move the metadata overlay outside of the screen by
- 1. activating the “Opacity” mode of the crop filter
- 1. setting “Opacity” to 100%
- 1. using “Offset” sliders of the metadata overlay filter to push the overlay outside the screen

Tip: Consider if it makes sense to apply a filter to a slot or an output. For example, if you want a crop to always beapplied on a certain camera, you can apply a crop filter to the input slot. However, if only some watchers want to see a clean image, apply the crop filter individually per output.
