Working with output colorspaces

Livegrade lets you manage looks with an output colorspace attribute for streamlined handling of looks and video signals within multi-monitoring setups and advanced color pipelines.

Setting the target colorspace#

In order to make sure that the production’s target colorspace always matches the look’s output colorspace, the target colorspace can be set in Livegrade’s settings.

This allows Livegrade to warn you if the output colorspace of your look does not match the target colorspace.

To set the target colorspace, open Livegrade’s settings

• via the menu Livegrade > Settings…
• and click on the “Grading” tab.

There you will find the option to set the target colorspace.

As soon as the look’s output colorspace does not match the target colorspace, a warning will appear within your look filter.

Assigning an output colorspace#

You can assign the desired output colorspace within the slot settings.

Livegrade automatically detects the output colorspace of built-in LUT presets and ACES output transforms.

For custom LUTs you can assign the correct output colorspace on loading. Once the output colorspace for a custom LUT is defined Livegrade handles the output colorspace for your custom LUT automatically.

On look export, Livegrade adds the output colorspace attribute as a LUT comment# LIVEGRADE_OUTPUTCOLORSPACE to all 3D LUT formats.

In the example shown above, the output colorspace of the LUT is set to P3-D65 PQ.

Other Livegrade systems will then auto-detect the appropriate output colorspace of your custom LUT on selection.

The following table shows you a list of all supported output colorspaces and the corresponding comments to tag a LUT with a certain colorspace.

Handling shots using the output colorspace attribute#

A look’s output colorspace is stored as shot attribute in the shot library so that you can

• view and sort the output colorspace column in the shots table,
• inspect a shot’s output colorspace in the info tab,
• or include it in reports.

For communicating the output colorspace attribute, you can use the output colorspace token within the wildcards for the Clip Identifier, in the file naming scheme for saving shots and for the still image export.

Auto-configure video scopes depending on target colorspace#

The correct color primaries value for video scopes can be set automatically depending on the target colorspace set in Livegrade’s “Grading” settings, so that the video scopes are always configured correctly.
