Livegrade serves as a visual memory of the film set, which can be used at any time to look up references, retrieve looks and research how certain results came about.

Various tools help to collect references and looks as “shots”, to maintain them and to pass them on later as stills and looks to other crew members of the film production.

The shot library

Your learning guide#

This learning guide is intended to help you get to know the essential tools for the task of look management.

1. Use the shot library#

The heart of your collected looks is the Shot Library. It shows all the looks and references as “Shots” you have collected, and provides associated metadata. It allows you to structure your shots using metadata with the help of smart groups and offers you two different views of your collection with a list and a collection view.

In order to collect the metadata associated with your shots as comprehensively as possible, various tools help you to collect global and slot metadata.

2. Refine looks#

In Livegrade, you can edit the looks saved in your shots at any time. In the article Regrading shots we show you some helpful options for this. The various single and multi-view modes allow you to display other shots as references during that process.

To adjust several looks at the same time, you can use the mechanism to link nodes from different slots.

3. Use look and node presets#

In addition to your shots, you can also collect look- and node presets. These presets allow you to easily recall entire looks or specific nodes that you frequently use. The article “Using node presets” describes use cases in which node presets can be very useful, for example in the application of lens offsets.
